ROCK ISLAND, IL – Cornell faced off against a strong Centenary (La.) team on Saturday afternoon in a neutral site game at Thorson-Luken Field, falling 21-7.
Rams traded scores with the Gents (7-0) to start the game.
Caden Lynch netted the Rams (1-1) first goal at the 11:53 mark of the first period.
The Gents then rolled off three scores in the next 2:30 of the period, before freshman
Alexander Dukatz found the net for his first collegiate goal. Dukatz would finish the game with three goals for the Rams.
Junior
Charley Kobets scored one of his two goals for the Rams with 3:58 to go in the third quarter, to pull them within four of Centenary at 10-4. The Gents then rolled off ten straight goals to put the game away.
Tyler Foster added a goal for the Rams and
Thomas Cobar picked up an assist.
Cornell picked up 31 ground balls with
Ben Schwartz and
Ben Wojewski leading the way with seven each. Dukatz grabbed four and
Brandon Warnke picked up three.
The Rams caused nine turnovers to Centenary's eight.
Ace Rivera and Warnke each forced two.
Nathan Diveley played 40 minutes in goal, finishing with six saves.
Elias Notsch finished the game in the net, picking up six saves.
Coming up – Rams travel to Richmond, IN. on Tuesday to face off against Earlham. Game time is 3:00 pm.
