Buhrandt brings more than 30 years of coaching experience to Cornell's basketball program as he begins his first season on head coach Chad Murray's staff in 2010-11.
Buhrandt comes from North Central College, where he was an assistant men's coach from 2005-10. He worked alongside Murray for four years in Naperville, Ill., including a record-setting 2005-06 campaign in which the 22-6 Cardinals claimed the program's first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) championship and made their first NCAA Division III National Tournament appearance since 1990. North Central averaged more than 15 wins a season during Buhrandt's stay there.
Buhrandt recently served as Midwest Regional Advanced Scout for the Seattle SuperSonics from 2006-08.
Buhrandt compiled more than 230 victories in 20 seasons as a head varsity basketball coach at the high school level. He spent stints in Illinois at Hinsdale Central (2004-05), Leyden (1992-03) and Argo (1988-92). While at Leyden, Buhrandt was on the board of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association for seven years.
Buhrandt was head boys coach from 1978-83 at Bay Port in Green Bay, Wis., where he led the high school to its first conference championship and a berth in the state tournament Sweet 16. He was named Metro (Green Bay) Coach of the Year in 1981. That same year he coached a team of Wisconsin All-Stars to the gold medal in a 64-team world tournament played in Norway.
Buhrandt was a men's assistant at NCAA Division I Long Beach State (Calif.) University from 1983-87.
Buhrandt earned his undergraduate degree in physical education from DePauw (Ind.) University in 1969. He received his master's from Indiana University in 1970.
Buhrandt and his wife, Sue, reside in Naperville, Ill. They have three daughters: Amanda, 31, Molly, 28, and Abby, 25.
