Rams capture 13th consecutive MWC regular-season crown

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's volleyball team secured its 13th consecutive Midwest Conference regular-season title with Saturday's 25-15, 25-3, 20-25, 25-11 victory over Knox on Parents' Day inside the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.

Coach Jeff Meeker's Rams (15-10 overall, 7-0 MWC) locked up the crown with the four-set win and Grinnell (5-2 MWC) dropping a 3-0 decision to Monmouth. Cornell has captured the regular season championship every season since rejoining the MWC in 2012.

The Rams will host the upcoming four-team MWC Tournament as the No. 1 seed on Nov. 14-15 in Mount Vernon. Lawrence, Grinnell, Monmouth, and Illinois College are jammed in a four-way tie for second place at 5-2 in league play with one match to go.

Cornell's championship pedigree was on full display Saturday, serving a season-best 19 aces and posting its third-best hitting percentage (.331) against Knox (3-25 overall, 1-6 MWC).

Kensie Staats planted a career-best six aces for the match, including four during a 14-0 service run to begin the second set. In that dominant Set 2, Cornell recorded 15 kills on 24 errorless swings for a .625 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Ally Olmstead spearheaded the attack with 13 kills on .476 hitting, along with three blocks and two aces. Ashlin Nottestad slammed 11 kills with two blocks. Hannah Cantwell added eight kills and 10 digs. Grace Tverberg chipped in a season-best seven kills.

Tverberg dished out 25 assists. Nia Howard provided 16 assists and served four aces. Ella Becker recorded 11 digs.

Up next – The Rams (15-10, 7-0 MWC) conclude league play Wednesday at Grinnell (12-13 overall, 5-2 MWC). First serve is 7 p.m.
